Jesse Moore - Pin
Date? What are the figures?

"The old "C" clasp is a dead giveaway...Revival pins used the swivel-head safety clasp, I'm pretty sure... in Victorian times, the pin stem would have extended beyond the "C" clasp, and often even extended beyond the brooch itself ...  The swivel-head safety clasp was invented in 1908, but didn't come into common use until the late 1920's" (Lynda Hartwell - Fabulous Facets)

ANSWER: PEYOTE BIRD - NATIVE AMERICAN

Amy Baker
Bolo tie
"There was never inlay in the dark, designed elements - it is a technique of oxidizing the valleys and then polishing the high points. Be careful not to 'clean' the dark, inset design elements as they are supposed to be dark like that. There are several artists known to use the B and I really could not make out the feather part of the hallmark. Sometimes cast silver has rough and patterned areas that really aren't anything but look like hallmarks." - Betsy in Maine

Of course it's not signed either so if anyone has an idea of a maker, that would be good too but I've got a feeling attribution isn't easy for this one and it will remain an unsigned beauty.  I didn't photo the back because it's no different than the front.  The back of the clasp is just plain goldtone metal.

Greek Worry Beads
Per Wikipedia: Greek komboloi (worry beads) generally have an odd number of beads (usually one more than a multiple of four, e.g. (4x4)+1, (5x4)+1, and so on) and usually have a "head" composed of a fixed bead (παπάς 'priest'), a shield (θυρεός) to separate the two threads and help the beads to flow freely, and a tassel (φούντα). Usually the length of a komboloi is approximately two palm widths.

There is a wonderful deco necklace with 1 inch beads that appear to be vulcanite since 2 of them are losing their finish and they have that smell. ANSWER: PATENT FOR METAL TREATMENT 2246399
I got a piece of jewelry in a box that had a patent number on it, Patent 2246399. On Google Patent Search I found the patent (linked below) and thought some of you might be interested or perhaps it
could be added to the JR patent page for future reference. It's rather difficult to reduce the several pages of patent information to a brief description, but essentially it describes a process for making the metal look like it had a gem paved surface. Patent issued in 1941. Here is a pic of the piece of jewelry that bears the patent number. I have to say they don't really look like gems to me, but rather inverted marcasites. Note the faux pearl does have real rhinestones in it.

Obviously my first thought was Coppola E Toppa but I know generally their pieces are marked. I also did some research and wondered about Ornella as I see their clasps are very detailed as this one it. It's heavy, solid, comfortable. I thought the earrings were kind
of inconspicuous for a piece like this but then I thought about it and I would think when the necklace is as stunning as this one is, especially on, you wouldn't want anything to take away from it.  So the original box from the store it came from came with it. The original owner purchased this in Italy at Aldemaro Galletti Artistic Florentine Works Florence. They are still in business and have been since 1931 and feature all Italian items. The beads have an AB finish.

ANSWER: SYNTHETIC ALEXANDRITE
I’ve had this ring for a long time.  It is substantial, signed SS with markings.  Please see below.  My question is…this large round stone changes in color from magenta to blue to purple depending on the lighting.  I’ve tested it on my Presidium gem tester and the needle travels all the way over to just before the diamond setting, near the ruby sapphire cal area.  Are there lots of gemstones that show all of those colors, or are there a few stones I might want to research further?  Actually in the florescent light I can see blue & magenta.  The stone is pretty stunning & large.  I know we’ve had discussions before about how difficult it is to determine a gemstone from a photo, but hoping because of the color variations that maybe someone might have a direction to send me in?

I acquired these two amazing hinged cuff or clamper style bracelets, both signed Park Lane in script. I've never quite seen any Park Lane jewelry like this--they have a kind of KJL or Ciner look -- so I'm wondering if anyone else has, and if you might have an idea of when these were made? I know the company has changed hands over time, and
these do have a more contemporary look to them - - but I'm not finding anything quite like them online so I don't think they're super new.

We have been contacted by a person who has an old rhinestone necklace that is marked Smart set on the clasp.  She is trying to get more info about it. As we had a tie clasp from Sarah Coventry named Smart Set listed for sale, she asked us whether we thought her necklace came from Sarah Coventry.  Sometimes they used the same name for more than one item, but to our knowledge they never put the name of the item on the clasp.  If it were Sarah Coventry, it would be signed SARAH COV or SARAH or COVENTRY or SC or some variation of the company name, not the item name. Does anyone know if Smart Set is a vintage CJ company?  Or a source to which we can refer her to get info about her item?

I am hoping a Chanel collector can give me information regarding whether all more recently made (i.e. 70's/80's) Chanel jewelry has a logo/cartouche on the back of the piece.  I have never owned or sold any Chanel, but purchased a lot which included 3 pairs of earrings, a necklace and belt plus matching brooch.  2 pairs of earrings had a logo on the back, and the necklace had a logo/tag as well.  The belt/brooch and one pair of earrings did not have the logo on the back, but seemed just as well made and of the same quality to me, although I am certainly not an expert.  These pieces all appear to be from the 80-'s or so judging by style.  A buyer on Ebay informed me that the belt and brooch must be fake, as ALL Chanel has a logo on the back, and therefore I was selling a fake piece.  I would love to know if this is correct, as I certainly would not intentionally sell a fake.  Any help would be appreciated.

Since it is so cold I’m staying in and started rummaging through things and came across this pin that I’ve had forever. I bought it long before I knew about patents and such. In looking at it today I saw the patent number (2050804) and looked it up. It was granted to Alfred Philippe in 1936. It looks like it should have been a clipmate but there are no actual clips on the two removable pieces and there is no indication that there ever were.  So I thought maybe someone just put these two pieces on the pin mechanism and they aren’t original.  Wrong….they both have the patent number on them too.  We have 2 pieces that can only be worn on this frame, so what’s the purpose of making the pieces unless there were also separate clip mechanisms that were able to slide in the channels in place of the pin mechanism.  Now add to that another patent number that is worn enough that I can’t decide what it really is, but can’t find anything jewelry rela...

The back ground looks foiled (?)and changes color from red, to purple, to deep blue depending on how you tilt it. Is there a name for this type of Cameo setting?Frame looks gold but failed the Gold test. It has a one piece pin stem with safety clasp that looks glued on, but that tells me it was an inexpensive piece for its time. I am guessing 1920's or 30's.

ANSWER: CZECH/BOHEMIAN BEADS

Nicole St-Pierre
Necklace

The beaded necklace looks quite old, it has a sterling pearl necklace type clasp. It's black & red and I wonder if it could be the stricà Murano beads Gennifer Moro shows in her book, page 214. Or is it from another country? It seems like it's mouned on twisted silk.
Age?

"Czech/Bohemian beads"
