Shangchuan Island 上川島 (May 2, 2005)Where the tomb and chapel of St. Francis Xavier(1506-1552) are located. The Jesuit Saint passed away in 1552 on the remote Cantonese Island with a hope to set foot on the mainland.
方济各纪念园--位于上川岛北部象鼻山西麓。建有方济各·沙勿略墓堂和墓塔。墓堂为西班牙古式建筑，墓堂西侧黄花翠柏修整井然，蔚为壮观。墓塔用花岗岩雕塑方济各半身像，现对外开放。墓塔建于1869年，1952年修建墓堂，1985年--1987年重修，目前每年都有外国人和港澳同胞前来旅游。 |
