2 BBN preparred to do costuming battle with his thrifty $4 flintlock from SPOTLIGHT
3 Taping up the shinies!
4 Inside the gun barrel was shiny and fake looking
5 Couple of squirts of matt black spraypaint fixed that!
6 Demonstrating techinique to BBN
7 The idea was to apply just the sheerest coat of dark brown paint, to flatten the plastic-ness of the black.
8 Mine with the taping removed..
9 Trying to get in on the two-toned effect we were going for..
10 Note to self - dont remove the taping so quickly! But actually I liked the unintentional 'aged' look it gave the silver!
11 Next to sit BBN down with the Gold Leafing Pen and painty-painty
12 ..and more painty-painty till all the shiny was recoloured. ;D
13 .. lookin' good.
14 ah but wait Mr BBN.. there's MORE.
15 Final step was to 'age' the piece... you need protective glove, a rag (NOT tissues or paper towelling) & shoe polish!
16 .. you have to pile the polish onto your rag, then force it down into the gaps/crevices of the filgree...
17 Once finished piling on the polish, use clean rag to wipe BACK raised surfaces and clean up where you went 'out of the lines'.. you WILL take off some of the spraypaint.. but this adds to the effect.
18 Now BBN being he would be our "Will Turner" got a not so Piratey hat ...
