The pearl color in rat terriers is also called Isabella in other breeds. It is the dilute of chocolate. Controversy over the color name once had pearl dogs registered with UKC as blue fawns, which was totally incorrect, and very confusing to breeders. Pearl is now accepted as a registerable color and is unusual as it requires both parents to either be the color or carry the genetics to make the color, chocolate and blue/dilute together. Pearl rat terriers can be pearl and white, pearl/white/tan (tri-color) or pearl sable and white. Pearl sable is also referred to as tan/pearl sable or red fawn. Munchie came to us from Patty Cromer, Maxwell's Rat Terriers in Alabama. Named for her color, she is pearl and white.
