Colorado January 2006 to February 2009 This album is pretty full. May have to divide in half and start another Album dedicated to the Monument. In the summer time it's not to pretty but the other 3 seasons you can expect to see anything. These photo's were taken in Colorado National Monument. This introduction photo is #1. These photo's in this album are posted according to the newest post first and oldest last. I added a bunch of new photo's in mid January 2009. 1 IMG 2747 Left center is Independence Monument in the fog..... Tuesday the 24th of February 2009 at straight up 9 am. It was so foggy over Fruita and most of the Valley. 2 IMG 2748 I moved around to get a good picture of what I was seeing. This was looking into the sun but it was high enough so it didn't shine into the lens with a hood attached. 3 IMG 2749 I took photo's of everything to the left and right... The fog is starting to wash over on the left there it seems.... like a big wave. 4 IMG 2750 almost looks like a wave on the left is going to wash away that rock... 5 IMG 2751 It was almost unbelievable how it looked.... this is not what you usually see from this point... I went around the campground area until I could see the monument. 6 IMG 2752 went to the right of the monument.... 7 IMG 2754 looking to the right up the valley by the Visitors center 8 IMG 2757 looking at the Grand Mesa 9 IMG 2760 The fog was moving around but it was hard to see it move. 10 IMG 2761 Not much movement now... 11 IMG 2762 included the bushes in the for ground too. 12 IMG 2764 I noticed several vehicles parked along the road... I was sure it was guys with cameras and when I got to the area there were several guys with cameras taking photo's of this... 13 IMG 2765 I'm headed to the area where I saw several vehicles parked.... one guy was in the viewing area here. 14 IMG 3994 Decided to get out my XT1 with the 100-400 telephoto attached. Didn't get a real close shot... wanted to include the fog too. 15 IMG 2776 regular lens on the 5D 16 IMG 2777 Looks like the fog was drifting like snow in the wind... there wasn't any wind that you could tell. 17 IMG 2778 backed off on the zoom a bit..... 18 IMG 2786 Moved to the last look out while you can see the Independent Monument from when headed to Grand Junction from the Fruita side. 19 IMG 2787 See that thing on the left...... I went up close with the 100-400 lens from the location before this and you'll see it up close in a few more shots. 20 IMG 4007 It's not to close but closer than usual....... 21 IMG 3998 Fog to the right of it.... farther to the right is the Independent.. 22 IMG 3999 There it is up close. Does it look like a mud ice cream cone with a swirl on top to you, too? 23 IMG 2790 Now I'm concentrating on Independence Monument again... 24 IMG 2792 Almost see the ground near the bottom of the monument here.... 25 IMG 2793 More ground at the bottom of the photo..... 26 IMG 2796 Framed....... 27 IMG 2803 Now the fog is starting to raise.... 28 IMG 2814 Engulfing the monument almost..... 29 IMG 4015 I took the 100-400 and this is maximum at 620mm with the XT1... it was almost covered by fog... The fog lifted before noon in Fruita if I remember right. 30 IMG 4017 I like that old piece of wood sticking up there for some reason. This shot is actually looking down but without a reference point behind it you can't tell that.
