Pups continue so socialize as they enter the third stage of socialization - the period of behavioral refinement. Pups were very curious and fearless last week, but this week they begin to take a more cautious approach as they learn to discriminate between sights, sounds and smells. We continue to invite friends to visit the litter, and continue with individual attention while the dogs continue with working out the dominance order and learning the right behavior for the right time.

1 We want OUT! 43 day old pups clammour at the gate, eager to come out.
2 The Duke dominates His little sis Zenith. The hour is late, the weather is HEAT WAVE HOT, and the mosquitoes force us indoors. The pups don't care tho -they are ready to continue with puppy behaviors no matter the setting!
3 Tables turned! Do you suppose Zenith is trying to dominate or perhaps she has just climbed the mountain because it was there.

5 Its hard to know.... If Ruby is correcting Bennie or if Bennie is helping Ruby clean her teeth! Ruby is a great help in tiring out the pups, tho, so we appreciate her every effort!
6 Astro again.... Leave the front door open, and just look who climbs right in Conan's crate!
7 Taking over! Conan's crate becomes THE place to party!
8 1 of 4 Hubby pets Zenith and she gets uppity! He rolls her to her back where she continues to act like a Brat!
9 2 of 4 "Let's try this again..." Zenith is tucked closer for a better grip. Pups need to learn that humans are the boss of them, and being held on your back briefly helps accomplish this.
10 3 of 4 Xena notices the impertinent pup and gives her a very direct message: submit to athority!
11 4 of 4 Zenith submits, and Xena gets thanked for her help! We find our adult dogs are a great help in training the pups to know what is expected of them.
12 Astro again...... Xena asks Astro to submit and he does!
13 My Boy Conan! Conan submits too!
14 In awe of Conan... Astro appears to be in awe of Conan. Conan is a grouch with the pups - and its important they see that not everyone loves their antics! Despite his grouchy exterior Conan is fine with pups and is a super role model.
