Emotional Support Animal Training Tips

An emotional support animal is an animal that provides companionship and animals who provide emotional support to their owners. In recent years these groups of animals are getting popular among people with anxiety and depression issues.

These animals provide companionship, affection, love, and support to help people get rid of anxiety, despair, depression, and loneliness. Generally speaking, any animal can be your emotional support but cats and dogs are tend to be the most common to serve the purpose.

To get an emotional support animal, a letter is required by the mental health professional stating the need for getting an emotional support animal for the patient. This letter is given after the analysis of your mental health.

You can get an emotional support animal letter sample online to get an idea of what criteria is, and whether you qualify to have one or not.

Yes, it is all good to have an ESA for yourself but this comes with a price. There are certain responsibilities on the owner of an ESA. The responsibility includes training your ESA. This training is general unlike the training of the service dogs which requires training them to assist their owners.

Even the law asks an ESA owner to train them for certain things like not whining and barking in public. The law even wants an ESA to be well behaved. Manners are taught to the ESAs by their owners.

It is never too early or late to train your ESA. Here are some tips for your ESA letter training:

The most important thing to train about your animal is potty. You can potty train your ESA by limiting the access of these animals to the other parts of the house and by rewarding them with treats.

What you can do is make it a routine to feed your ESA at the same time every day and offer them potty breaks. When you will do this your ESA will know to go to a certain place at that time of the day. Reward your ESA when he gets on the right spot.

A tip to teach a good recall to your ESA is to make them believe that you have something really interesting to offer them. It can be a treat, or a call to play, or maybe just cuddles.

Teaching youdoy a “stay” command is important. This command is built on three D’s (distance, duration, distraction). You can teach this command by making your pet sit in a position near you. Give the command to “stay” a single time and reward after awhile. Repeatedly do this until your ESA understands.

Afterall, ESA needs your love and support just like you do but first get your esa letter for housing.
