Elk Album 1 All photo's in this album were taken of Elk during the rut seasons at Slippery Anne wildlife refuge located on the Missouri River 70 miles north east of Lewistown, Montana from the  years 2000 to 2006. I am in the process of editing some of the photos and will put the replacements in as time goes by. I have  replaced quite a few already. The photo's with copyright notice are the old ones and they are towards the end of the album. The new PhotoshopCC program helps editing the older photo's so this is an upgrade for the older photos. Most of the older photos taken in 2000 - 2003 are not edited yet. I have edited one and it looks much better than the originals. Date(s): 2000 to 2004, and 2006. Album by Ron Carrick. Probably because they migrate to different areas to get their food so stay in shape easier when they have to travel about 100 miles between winter and summer grazing areas. This is an annual gathering Starting in Mid to late September. ending in mid November. There is a herd of around 400 who gather there during that time. They graze slowly while he runs around chasing other bulls off and taking a challenge once in a while. You'd have to be there to appreciate it fully. IMG 233 3334 IMG 233 3335 The one on the right has 5 points on one side and six on the other. The other has six on both sides. The bull with 5 points on one side was a bit bigger than the other bull. They were pretty evenly matched though. IMG 233 3377 This is one of the biggest racks on a bull with a 7X7 both sides. I am going back and editing a lot of these older photo's because Photoshop CC of today is better than it was 10 years ago. The points a little different than on a usual rack too. PA121931Xcopy It really has her attention now.... I figured out that it was a coyote in the brush between her and I. It would bark every once in a while. She could hear or smell it or maybe both for all I know. I could hear it barking myself. It kept barking every so often. Not a loud bark but  a stressful bark as if it was afraid and trying to scare us off. She was probably 150 foot in front of me and the coyote wasn't comfortable since he was between us.
