Pictures taken at one of the top scenic area - AliSan during the June, 2007 vacation in Taiwan.

It is famous for the redwood which is given a name - "the wood from heaven". Unfortunately many of these magnificent trees were cut down during the Japanese Occupation period and only tree stumps were left. The remote railway station was built during this period to transport the woods. There are some old steam engines on display.

There is a continuous effort in replant the trees some 50 years ago and it is interesting to compare these new trees to the old stumps.

It was rainy, foggy and dark inside the forest. Very difficult for picture taking. However, I managed to use the flash and high ISO settings to get a few shots of those huge tree stumps.
