Toodyay

Toodyay is one of the oldest inland towns in Western Australia and is set in the picturesque Avon Valley east of Perth. Much of the town's heritage has been preserved and it is a popular tourist destination. This album contains scenic views of the Avon Valley from Pecan Hill, Heritage Buildings and views of the town, Newcastle Park in the heart of Toodyay with a colourful display of local wildflowers, and experience the AvonLink commuter train on the return journey.

Freemasons Hotel
The Heritage Listed Freemasons Hotel is well maintained. The original single storey hotel of 1861 is incorporated in present structure and upper floor added in 1891.

Toodyay Post Office
The two storey brick and iron building with the postmaster's residence on the first floor is a good example of the public buildings of the period and is a focal point on Stirling Terrace. Renovated during 1975.

Here comes the Train!
The first AvonLink left Northam at 6.55am on 24 September 1995 and was the State's first dedicated long-distance commuter train. The new $12 million AvonLink train made its maiden trip from Northam to Perth on 1 August 2005.

The AvonLink at Toodyay Station
Services operate twice daily, Monday to Friday between Midland, Toodyay and Northam.
The MerredinLink operates from the East Perth Rail Terminal through to Merredin on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The AvonLink provides one of the most comfortable commuter train rides in Australia with air conditioning throughout, cloth seats with footrests (and some with power outlets for laptop computers), and background music.
