JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK
Why did we wait so long to come here?  That's the question Lea and I asked ourselves once we entered the park at the Joshua Tree, CA entrance.  The park is huge, with other entrances at 29 Palms, CA, home to the large Marine Corps Base where I spent many days of desert warfare training, and another off I-10 east of Indio, CA.

In the high desert, the western part of the park is above 3000 feet, while the eastern part drops below 3000 feet.  Our visit took in a very small section, from the entrance to Hidden Valley.  We plan to return several more times.

The rocks, their sizes, shapes, and formations are dramatic and powerful.  All I can tell you is that the rock piles began underground eons ago.  I took lots of photos in the attempt to describe them.
