The International Arboriculture Summit-Hong Kong started in 2008. Tree Assessment and Preservation was the main theme of the 2009 Summit 20-22 November. Over 100 people attended from Malaysia, Singapore, Macau, and Hong Kong. International speakers such as Jim Clark, Nelda Matheny, Frank Rinn, William Fountain, Andreas Detter, Francesco Ferrini, Ken So, and Laurence Chau came from such countries as the USA, Italy, Germany, and Hong Kong to speak on tree assessment, tree preservation, tree management policy and recommendations for improvements in Hong Kong as well as demonstrations of high level assessment methods such as the ARBOTOM , RESISTOGRAPH , and the Elasto-Inclino method (Tree Statics).

In 2012 the Institute of Arboriculture Studies Hong Kong was incorporated and opened the IASHK Space in Fotan HK officially April 2014. In addition to hosting the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ the Space also hosts many special trainings.
