Witches Heart Religious Pendant Mid 17th Century
Silver, rock crystal and handpainted pendant of Mary, infant Jesus and Joseph.

Mid 17th century, Italian or Spanish. It is hard to tell what the painting is on. Could be paper, possibly velum. The rock crystal front is very thick. The pendant dimensions are almost 3 inches ( not including bale ), by just under 2 1/4 inches. There is one similar on page 74 of " Jewelry" The Smithsonian Illustrated Library of Antiques" Prepared by The Cooper-Hewitt Museum Copyright 1881 by the Smithsonian Institution.

17th Century Hungarian Pendant
This is a large pendant at 1 7/8 inches across. It is oddly curved at the back and has a tapered tube. Upon close examination there are 4 tiny holes around the central medallion. This was to affix on a belt or hat. The tubular piece at the back is later added and so are the pearl drop and bale.

Rock Crystal Heraldic Amulet late 17th century
Rock Crystal Heraldic Amulet  Late 17th Century. just over 1 1/2 inches tall by 1 1/8 inch wide. I need to do more research on this one. It came with a very old paper that read " Crystal Arch Bishop
Rock crystal amulet mounted in silver. Engraved arms and once property of Count Eggersherg (SP)of Walstein. Archbishop of Prague Bohemia 1683.The back reads Folklore of precious stones By George Frederich Kierng (SP) Reprinted from the memoirs of  The International Congress of Anthropology Page 275 Chicago 1894

I found the entire copy of  "The International Congress of Anthropology" and looked up page 275. It is a chapter called Folk-Lore of Precious Stones. The chapter is a very detailed description of the types of stones ancients carried as charms . The author exhibited a huge collection at the New York Branch of the American Folk- Lore Society in the Department of Ethnology. Also, there was a huge display at the Columbian Exposition ( Chicago Exposition of 1893 ) and this is where the amulet was displayed. The proper spellings are Count von Walstein, and Count Eggenberg, Duke of Bohmish Krumlow, Bohemia. These are listed as 2 separate amulets and I don't know which one mine is supposed to be, if it is either of the two.

16th Century Spanish Enamelled Silver Ring
This gorgeous ring is late 16th Century Spanish. I purchased it from a dealer in Port Saint Lucie Florida which was a place the Spaniards built a Fort ( Fort San Lucia ) in 1565. There are several sunken Spanish ships in this area where treasure hunters have found marvelous treasures. This ring is large and shows great wear. There are traces of baby blue, black and green enamelling. A very dimensional ring with many layers. The paste is open backed. At some point in the 20th century a second shank was added. I am considering taking this out.

Copy of 19th Century Royal Crest Ring
This is a copy of a 19th century ring in the Royal Collection which is set with a diamond intaglio supplied to Charles I for his wife Henrietta Maria, by Francis Walwyn in 1629.

At one time the HM conjoined on the right of the shield was read as an M only and was believed to refer to Mary, Queen of Scots.  In the 19th century glass copies of the diamond were sold at Holyrood Palace in Ediburgh as being copies of an object associated with Mary Queen of Scots, the romantic heroine.

The diamond was thought by Fortnum to have been mounted in a modern ring for the Duke of Brunswick sometime after the latter had acquired it. The date of the acquisition is not precisely known but appears to have been 'some  fifteen or twenty years' before 1882 when Fortnum wrote an article on the intaglio.

The ring copies both the diamond intaglio and the 1860s setting. It seems probable that  this ring was also made when the Mary Queen of Scots connec...

This ring was taken off the finger of a little child's skeleton in Pompeii and belonged to the King of Naples. He gave it to the Duke of Gloucester, who gave it to HRH Princess Sophia - who gave it to the the father of Mr. Lambrick, wife of General Lambrick - who gave it to Laura E. Riddiey, as a great great niece ( half- aunt) of HRH Princess Sophia

Sophia Matilda; 3 November 1777 – 27 May 1848) was the 12th child and 5th daughter of King George III and Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Sophia is perhaps best known for the rumours surrounding a supposed illegitimate child to which she gave birth as a young woman.

Scottish Gold Jacobite Rose Cameo Pin
C. 1760 and made for a supporter of Bonnie Prince Charlie after the 1745 Jacobite uprising. The flower pattern is significant, as the Jacobites had to resort to using secret signs and symbols. The white rose in bloom symbolizes the Old Pretender—Prince Charlie's father. For reference, a closed bud would symbolize Bonnie Prince Charlie.  This pin also has the tiniest glazed compartment for a loved ones hair, as well as a diamond end. The Scottish Thistles are a very Scottish touch!

This necklace has 4 elements of a 16th century necklace that have been put together with modern emerald beads to make a stunning necklace. The clasp is Georgian and the pearl drops are natural. The overall effect is stunning. I wore this in a dimly lit room and the tiny diamonds surrounding the emerald plaques just glistened which is surprising seeing as they are so black This is due to the fact that they are backed with lead as was done in the 16th century.

Tudor Head Pin Attributed to Queen Elizabeth1
the note manuscript states that Queen Elizabeth left the pin where she slept near at Tilbury Fort in 1588 when she was there to lead her army to the victory against the Spanish, and at the time of her famous "Speech to the Troops at Tilbury." The note is penned in a neat hand and rolled to fit the tube. The writer signs his or her name, and wrote the note at Hale, possibly referring to Tottenham Hale situated some thirty miles from Tilbury. The writer may have been a librarian or museum curator, as the note mentions that the artefact was "deposited", presumably into an archive or collection. [Further research is required on all matters).

The note reads as follows:
"This pin, there is very reason to believe, belonged to, and was worn by Queen Elizabeth. She left it at the house of the now estimed Family of Valour near Tilbury Fort..... Queen Elizabeth lay, while she commanded in person at the time of the Spanish Invasion."
"Deposited by J. T. Blackbury, Esq. Hale. "

During the Tudor period, hair decorations were very fashionable with wealthy ladies. These ornate gold and silver pins were worn in the hair with the spherical decorated knob protruding over the centre of the forehead. Several have been found by detectorists during recent  years, many  with the pin deliberately bent to help prevent them slipping out of the hair

Berlin Iron and Silesian Wire Necklace
Berlin Iron jewelry has a history dating back to 1790 in Silesia, Prussia and France. Produced by sand-casting impressions filled with molten iron, finished and coated with black lacquer, the jewelry was typically of Neoclassical motif with cameos accents. During the 'Fer de Berlin' in early 1800, the Prussians used wealthy citizen's jewelry to fund the Napoleonic war in exchange for iron using the phrase Ich gab gold fur eisen translated to I gave gold for iron.

16th Century tree agate ring. The scalloped bezel has scratchy line decoration which is so typical of jewellery of this period. The lozenge shaped high domed tree agate has great wear and the bottom of the setting has a curious hole. From the research I have done, I have learned that this is to allow the healing properties of the stone to go into the wearers skin. The tree agate is said to boost the immune system and to balance water in the body.
