Witches Heart Religious Pendant Mid 17th Century Silver, rock crystal and handpainted pendant of Mary, infant Jesus and Joseph.
Mid 17th century, Italian or Spanish. It is hard to tell what the painting is on. Could be paper, possibly velum. The rock crystal front is very thick. The pendant dimensions are almost 3 inches ( not including bale ), by just under 2 1/4 inches. There is one similar on page 74 of " Jewelry" The Smithsonian Illustrated Library of Antiques" Prepared by The Cooper-Hewitt Museum Copyright 1881 by the Smithsonian Institution.

| Renaissance Gold Sapphire Pendant C. 1680 I can't believe the colour of these natural sapphires, the cut is to die for. They are surrounded by table cut diamonds and filagree work with enamelling. English in origin.

17th Century Hungarian Pendant This is a large pendant at 1 7/8 inches across. It is oddly curved at the back and has a tapered tube. Upon close examination there are 4 tiny holes around the central medallion. This was to affix on a belt or hat. The tubular piece at the back is later added and so are the pearl drop and bale.

| Rock Crystal Heraldic Amulet late 17th century Rock Crystal Heraldic Amulet Late 17th Century. just over 1 1/2 inches tall by 1 1/8 inch wide. I need to do more research on this one. It came with a very old paper that read " Crystal Arch Bishop Rock crystal amulet mounted in silver. Engraved arms and once property of Count Eggersherg (SP)of Walstein. Archbishop of Prague Bohemia 1683.The back reads Folklore of precious stones By George Frederich Kierng (SP) Reprinted from the memoirs of The International Congress of Anthropology Page 275 Chicago 1894
|
Back View I found the entire copy of "The International Congress of Anthropology" and looked up page 275. It is a chapter called Folk-Lore of Precious Stones. The chapter is a very detailed description of the types of stones ancients carried as charms . The author exhibited a huge collection at the New York Branch of the American Folk- Lore Society in the Department of Ethnology. Also, there was a huge display at the Columbian Exposition ( Chicago Exposition of 1893 ) and this is where the amulet was displayed. The proper spellings are Count von Walstein, and Count Eggenberg, Duke of Bohmish Krumlow, Bohemia. These are listed as 2 separate amulets and I don't know which one mine is supposed to be, if it is either of the two.

| 16th Century Spanish Enamelled Silver Ring This gorgeous ring is late 16th Century Spanish. I purchased it from a dealer in Port Saint Lucie Florida which was a place the Spaniards built a Fort ( Fort San Lucia ) in 1565. There are several sunken Spanish ships in this area where treasure hunters have found marvelous treasures. This ring is large and shows great wear. There are traces of baby blue, black and green enamelling. A very dimensional ring with many layers. The paste is open backed. At some point in the 20th century a second shank was added. I am considering taking this out.

| Spanish Ring The enamelling is very rich, just like pieces should have at this age.

18th century Amethyst Ring This ring is manufactured very differently. The amethyst setting unscrews and the fancy embossed sides open up, they are on tiny hinges. Why?

| Georgian Handpainted Clasp The painting on this piece is exquisite, very detailed. I believe the subject matter to be unusual as well. I have never seen 2 female hunters. Their hunting habit is wonderful. This is painted on ivory and C. 1790.
