5D 2403 Jpg copy Two Doe disagree and decide to dance it seems. The one on the left eventually nailed the one on right ,dead center on her nose with her leg. OUCH! I'm sure... The disagreement ended soon after. I think the one on the left was an older doe with more experience. They are pretty tall when they stand on their hind legs compared to on all fours.

IMG 2391 On July 28, 2013 we arrived in Fort Benton late in the day so we went up river almost to Loma, Mt. crossed the river and camped upstream along the Missouri. The next morning we went back down river and took the photo's at Fort Benton.
IMG 2393 The clouds moved in....
IMG 2395 Last photo of this bunch,
IMG 2429 This is looking down river from the fort.
IMG 2427 Closer still
IMG 2426 This is a closer view of the bridge.(only a foot bridge these days) The modern highway bridge is behind it.
IMG 2424 This is looking up river at the bridge that was designed originally designed to swivel in the middle to let the big paddle boats pass but the channel was to shallow and I am not sure if any paddle boats got that far if at all. One sunk on the right between this ramp and the bridge. Parts of it still lay in the river. (A sign marks the spot)
IMG 2423 This is looking down up river from the fort.
5D 5192 copy This is a replica of the Original front Wall complete. This is the main entrance to the Fort.
5D 5196 copy This is looking from the west end of the wall. (Hope my directions are straight)
IMG 2405 This is the new part that of the wall that was built on the north side of the fort since I was there in 2006
IMG 2406 I walked to the right around the corner and shot this photo looking back to my left
IMG 2407 Then I backed up and got a more direct shot of the back wall straight on.
IMG 2408 Then to the left to show the West wall that goes back to the fron of the fort. It now has four walls instead of just the one in front. So they put three walls up since 2006.
IMG 2409 This is a closer view of the photos I took before this.
IMG 2411 This photos was taken out of sequence since I went back to my left to take it. So I put it here to better show which was I was going.
5D 5201 copy This is looking from the east end of the completed replica of the front wall
IMG 2410 This is looking at the north side towards the back wall that goes west. Actually this fort is turned so that the front faces south east. It is turned 45 degrees from actual north, east, south ,west. Each corner faces real north, east, south, west. Google Maps shows fort. You can see it by looking up Fort Benton, Montana. (Satellite)
IMG 2412 This a close up of the sign over the front entrance.
IMG 2414 This thing on the left is a Buffalo Robe Pur press that they used in preparing the pelts for shipment via paddle boat to St. Louis Missouri.
IMG 2415 This tells about the press.
IMG 2416 This is a near duplicate of what I took in 2006
IMG 2417 I included the side walk here.
IMG 2418 This shows the entrance to the fort as the photo does from where we are standing.
IMG 2419 I am standing on the front left corner looking down the from wall that goes north/northwest to the back of the fort.
5D 5203 copy Notice the holes to stick rifle and pistol barrels out of.
IMG 2420 This is the front again.
IMG 2422 This is looking at the east corner. The front of the fort is on the left behind the tree on the left.
5D 5206 copy This is the east end on the inside of the front wall. The Missouri River runs to the left in front of the wall.
5D 5208 copy More sky and top of the flag pole
5D 5209 copy Up close
5D 5211 copy This is the back of the front wall looking from the west. (if my directions aren't straight tell me if you've seen this)
5D 5213 copy Cannon in front of the Ft.Benton Museum
5D 5216 copy Keelboat Mandan. Early day freight boats that ran the river before steamers came, I believe. They were 60 feet or so long.
5D 5220 copy I took several pictures to give you a good idea of what these boats looked like. This is a replica that was used to make a movie and is loaned to Ft. Benton by the Historical Society
5D 5223 copy Right front
5D 5224 copy That brown part is where they kept the hides and goods to buy and trade along the river. They poled or pulled them up the river from the shore.
5D 5230 copy Original Bridge over the Missouri. Part of it could rotate so steamers could go through to get to the Hotel I guess
5D 5226 copy Front up close

5D 5262 copy An old Great Northern passenger car that sets on tracks near Gerldine I believe... between Ft. Benton and Stanford, Mt. That railroad or company does not exist anymore.
5D IMG 5943 copy Sun peaking through smokey skies near Big Timber where a fire was raging for days southeast, south and southwest of this location, in September of 2006. The date was Setp. 5, 2006

5D IMG 5948 copy Sun peaking theough smoky skies over the Crazy Mountains. Sept. 5, 2006
5D IMG 5610 UP copy I just happened along as a 2 point Mule buck and a doe with two fawns were crossing the recently torn up rail bed. The Buck and Fawn were right close together and both turned to look at me and the dog, so I took their picture. Taken Sept. 8, 2006
5D IMG 5614 UP copy The Fawn seems to be saying... where ever you go I'm going to follow. I wanna run with the big guys.
5D IMG 5741 UP copy I spooked up 4 Mule doe and 3 fawns while walking. They didn't run very far so I was able to get quite a few poses out of them. This fawn was looking into the morning sun and the pose was a bit unusual with it's head back and back arched like this.
IMG 6273 copy These deer were walking across the dam of a pond that was just dug. There were 9 in the bunch. I was walking in the opposite direction on the abondoned RR track bed. Taken Sept. 9, 2006
