 Very scarce-wafer button, which is a type of mechanical makeup. Wafers are made of thing glass cemented to a wide metal plate with a loop shank attached. The entire back is embedded in a pitch-like material.
The lion is engraved and the background is acid etched to a dull finish.
There is a flea-bite nick on the outer rim as noted in the photo. Otherwise, good vintage condition.

In mythology, a phoenix is an immortal bird with colorful plummage and a tail of gold and scarlet that, when it dies, bursts into flames and is reborn from its own ashes. "To rise from the ashes of the phoenix" means to make a miraculous comeback.

Gorgeous coloration shines throughout these Lutz-type glass waistcoats in excellent condition.
The antique dealer he said he didn't see any signature but he felt they were Lutz glass or at least Lutz-type glass.
These appear to be made in two separate, semi-spheres, encased in a glass cap.
The peacock-eye green reminds me of those pretty peacock eye buttons.
