My food processor and EZSprouters are the 2 best investments I've made when it comes time to preparing salads and sprouts for my feathereds.

Here is another variation to the salad. I put each ingredient through the food processor one at a time. I start with the leafy greens and work my way up by degrees of hardness of the vegetable.  I transfer each ingredient into a large bowl. Before I pulse the apples and citrus fruit, I spread a layer of Ezkiel cereal over the chopped veggies to soak any juice from the fruits.  Before each day's serving, I will add berries or corn or peas or sprouts to the basic mix in a large bowl so they get a different 'mix' each day.

Sunflower seeds are floaters, so I keep them submersed in water using one of the caps to my EZSprouter.

I then put the EZSprouter lid on to keep the insert and seeds immersed in water.  I change the soak water and rinse 3 to 4 times a day.  When I see some sunflower seeds at the bottom of the container, I know they are ready to begin sprouting.  Most of the time I have to soak 24 hours and sometimes up to 36 hours.  As long as I change the soak water and rinse diligently, the black oil sunflower seeds do not sour.

I've seen wooden dish racks with 2 rows.  I am going to buy one of those to hold more sprouters.  This one will only accomodate 4 EZSprouters.  When I sprout, I end up using all 6 of my EZSprouters.

Before I dry the sprouts and put them in the fridge, I give them a freshly squeezed lemon juice/water bath.  Citric acid is a natural, healthy food preservative.  I try to use as many organic products as I can
ORGANIC is always a better choice for you and your feathreds

Heirloom tomatoes from my 2005 organic garden.  Huge and so tasty all the feathereds loved them!
Enlarge photo 88
I cut them in half, scooped out the middle, then mixed them with sprouts and stuffed each tomato half.

Kiri and Pele enjoyed their Stuffed Tomato a la Christine. You should have seen the aftermath of the 'Great Tomato Massacre'!

Here is Kiri eyeing up her Hibiscus afternoon snack. I also planted marigold, impatiens, nastursium, and coneflowers for them.

Kiri enjoying a refreshing kabob on a hot summer's day. How I envy Floridians and Californians. I would love to step out my front door to pluck some oranges and grapefruits for my flock!  I can just imagine the wonderful flavors they are filled with

Christine - thank you for sharing your methods! Makes it seem pretty easy. Kiri is beautiful. I have a special bhc at the Rainbow Bridge with Pele, Samson. It looks like Howie will be right at home.
