1 It doesn't take a genius to see that the way my TV is situated, is not particularly secure. On several occasions, I've knocked it over. I decided to try and make a more stable platform to locate it.
| 2 I also threw my bed away when I moved, so I bought several pieces of wood to try and build a new one. Unfortunately, my wallet could only afford pine, which isn't especially stable and doesn't take stain well. If I had deeper pockets, I'd have bought poplar.
| 3 I cut a short piece down, but it still isn't very flat. I rounded the corners, and I'll run it through a surface planer to try and make it more suitable.I also intend to use a router to round off the top edge.
| 4 It's been a while since I've used my routers, and finding the mounting hardware for the table, took a large portion of the day.
|
5 I rounded over the top edge, to five it a more finished look.
| 6 A couple of coats of polyurethane, should help keep it from absorbing moisture, and protect it. I neglected to take any photographs of the planing process. That provided me with plenty of sawdust and shavings.
| 7 Although unsightly, the base I already had will make it less of an ordeal to build the platform.
| 8 I found the center of the base, and the top piece, and marked them where the pencil lines wouldn't be seen. I then drilled two holes through the bottom.
|
9 I had put several coats of polyurethane on the top piece, which will be more visible. I put the center lines on the underside, which is how I'll align the two, hopefully making them symmetrical.
| 10 Flipped over, I now sink two screws into the base and top.
| 11 Here it is, ready to support my TV.
| 12 I found an old scrap of paneling, which I'll run across the back. I keep my vitamins on the lower level, and they often get pushed out the back, so this will prevent that from continuing. I marked the length, and a space that will be notched to allow the wires to run through.
|
13 My tried and true saber saw will cut this. Hardly precise, it will do the job.
| 14 This is how it turned out. The plywood is hardly attractive, but I seriously doubt anyone will be looking at this piece of work anyway.
| 15 Here's the end result. I don't think any of the furniture outlets have to worry about competition from me.
