1 It's a beautiful Friday night in the middle of July. A perfect time to rock in the streets of Glen Cove, with Desert Highway, an Eagles tribute band.
| 2 Glen Street and School Street are closed to traffic,so you might as well settle for life in the slow lane.
| 3 I didn't keep track of what songs they were performing, so I'll keep the commentary to a minimum.
| 4 There are a few eateries in the area, so you can grab a bite to eat, and something to drink while you check out the band. You might even have a tequila sunrise.
|
5 This is the view from The Downtown, a pizzeria that sponsors the weekly rock shows.
| 6 Mike Green is the frontman. A high school classmate of mine.
| 7 They all take turns singing.
| 8 They cover all phases of The Eagles, from Glen Frey, Don Felder and Don Henley, to Joe Walsh.
|
9 They even touch on some Jackson Browne tunes.
| 10 You could say that they take it to the limit.
| 11 There are no 'Johnny Come Latelys' in this band.
| 12 The show started around 8:00, looks like they're in it for The Long Run.
|
13 I suppose that Life's Been Good, so far.
| 14 One might get a Peaceful Easy Feeling, listening to the mellow tunes.
| 15 The crowd seemed to enjoy them, and they may even play again, One Of These Nights.
| 16 Just take a glance with your Lyin' Eyes.
|
17 I was surprised that there weren't any annoying insects to ruin the show, since Glen Cove is right on Long Island Sound.
| 18 Mike grew up in this area, so he's no New Kid In Town.
| 19 It's a good thing The Eagles had lots of hits, otherwise I'd run out of trite things to write here.
| 20 This camera is relatively new to me, and it's not as fast as my old one. Luckily the days are still long, so I don't have to rely on the flash to get adequate lighting.
|
21 Neither of these guys is wearing a mask or a Stetson, and packing a Colt so they don't qualify as Desperadoes.
| 22 Help, I'm running out of song titles to tack on these photos.
| 23 Every Friday night during the summer, Glen Cove is transformed into a Party Town.
| 24 Here's a glimpse of the audience.
|
25 It takes several sponsors to put on these free concerts, but The Hotel California isn't one of them.
| 26 You can see that the sun is fading, One Of These Nights.
| 27 The streets are blocked off, so you won't see a girl my Lord in a flatbed Ford.
| 28 "I don't need to take a break, I've Already Gone."
|
 29 One Of These Nights.
| 30 It's not a full moon, so you won't see any werewolves, but you may see a Witchy Woman.
| 31 As the sun dips below the horizon, taking good shots get harder.
| 32 This cat is playing the first guitar that he ever had.
|
33 I don't know the correct term for when you play it this way, like a dobro or lap steel guitar.
| 34 Whatever the correct vocabulary is, he has it down pat.
| 35 The sun is setting In The City.
| 36 You'll Have To Eat Your Lunch All By Yourself, ( I love that line!)
|
37 I've run out of clever things to write.
| 38 These two were Dancing In The Streets, and that's not even an Eagles song.
