1 There are car-freaks everywhere, even here on Long Island, New York. Today is April 21st 2012, and this is the first car-show I've attended this year. Car shows are the place to go if you're hunting for parts, looking to buy an unusual vehicle or just like to see how other people trick-out their rides. This booth had some nice custom valve covers and steering wheels.
| 2 Rain was predicted for today, looks like the weather man is a car freak too. This is one of the aisles in the swap section of the show at Belmont Park.
| 3 I've always been partial to Mopars. The Dodge Dart was a popular model because you could cram a BIG engine into this little guy! I think red is a "girly" color and wouldn't have chosen this hue however.
| 4 It does have a nice clean engine bay, even if it is red.
|
5 This is a "Goat" engine. I believe its a '67, myt favorite year for this vehicle, but it's a convertible, and I decided not to waste a shot on the rest of the car. It did have a terrific paint job, with deep metal flakes.
| 6 Here's a different version of the same body style, and this is a hard top, so this gets a full profile.
| 7 A couple of vintage Chevy's from the '50s and 60s.
| 8 Another Dodge. If you're gonna have a hood scoop, it may as well be functional. You see, if there is no air intake through the scoop, it only acts like a dam and creates more drag on the car.
|
9 I'm reasonably sure that this is a fiberglas bodied car, but it is sweet nonetheless.
| 10 Here's a Polara or a Belvedere, I've already forgotten which. It DOES have a functional hood scoop though!
| 11 Shoebox Chevies will never go out of style.
| 12 If they have a blower style air cleaner poking through the hood, they're even more noticeable.
|
13 In my intro I mentioned cars for sale. Here's a prime example.
| 14 Think this guy's serious about finding a new home for this puppy? A personalized plate doesn't get more hardcore.
| 15 He also put down the vital stats. A smart move to help inform potential customers what went into this project, should he be out checking to find a new project to take its' place.
| 16 This thing looks angry!
|
17 I'd love to hear this growl!
| 18 Here's a rare bird. I'd be dumbstruck if this turned out to be a glass body. Know what it is?
| 19 How many Willys Overlands do you see prowling your neighborhood?
| 20 A restoration made the show.
|
21 With gas topping $4.00 a gallon, you can bet it's cool to keep the straight six in a slick ride.
| 22 And here's the proud owner of that six-banger. My dad had early 'Stangs with the sixes and three speeds, let me tell you, they were a ton of fun to drive.
| 23 A vintage Firebird nested at the show.
| 24 It also sported a six banger. I've never seen a valve cover like this before. It had PMD stamped on the casting, so I'm assuming it is the stock cover, but I wasn't sure what I was looking at for a few seconds.
