The Home Places
We rented when I was growing up.  In my 18 years at home, I think we lived in 8 different houses.  As we moved from place to place, we always "named" the houses, so we could distinguish which one we were talking about.  Usually, they were named for the person we rented from, or perhaps something referring to the location.  Each house had it's own personality, and thusly, a place in my memory.  As you view these, if you are of the generation that remembers visiting "grandpa & grandma" some of these might seem familiar.

The Cox Place
One of two houses that I lived in still standing today. Named for the people who had owned it at one time. I only vaguely remember living there.

The house in the Holler
Not a great picture, but the best one I have.  Those lovely young kids are (L to R), Irma Parsley, Jan Sparkman, Lois Cloyd and myself.  We lived there from about 1944 to 1947

The Holler; a close up
I included this here because it gives a close up of the house, so you can see how "primitive" it was.

A View in the Holler
The intent of this picture was to capture the beauty of the large rose bush in the yard. But we only had black and white back then, so it doesn't show that well, but gives a good view of the farm.

Rough Creek
Sometimes called the "John Overbey Place", we rented from Kenneth Overbey's father. I liked it there, the neighbors had a boy my age.

Site of the "Roscoe Magee Place"
Located just south of London, the house was big and scary to me. Legend had it there had been a lynching in one of the big trees.

Jan & George at the Magee Place
Thanks to a collection provided by Lois, I can put a series of pictures together to show most of the Roscoe Magee place. Still do not have a picture of the front of the house with bay window and wrap-around porch that gave the place a personality.

The Frey Place
This will always be "HOME" to me.  From April 1953 until August 1958 it was my world, it is where I grew up, it is where I still go in my dreams.

We didn't name this one
We lived here when I graduated high school, and when I got married. This is the last house mom & dad lived in, but somehow, it was never home to me.
