Allen Park The trees in the beautiful textbook fall colors are (I believe) Spanish oaks. Also seen are evergreen live oaks, and pine-like ashe junipers, commonly known as cedar.
Spanish oaks Here are more leaves, with sunlight coming through them like stained glass. It doesn't come across in the photo 100%, but I was awe-struck.
Tiny oak This little squirt of a tree was displaying wonderful changing colors.
Trees Spanish oaks in the background, cedars up front
Trees Allen Park is a little 10 acre park near Mopac and 2222. There are points in the park where you can watch traffic on Mopac, and parts that feel like the middle of a forest.
Trees The park had many little birds- I heard cardinals, and even saw a little wren. I also saw turkey buzzards and a small hawk.
Trees There were also lots, I mean tons, of butterflies. Little brown snout butterflies, mostly, but some others- including what I think are called sulphur butterflies, slightly bigger and the color of butter.
Trees more Spanish oak and cedar
Trees I liked how the orange shaded to red here.
Spanish oaks Here's my favorite shot- more sunlit leaves.
Prickly pear cactus Aww, it's heart-shaped! It means wuv!
Mama and kid Here is a scrappy little Spanish oak, with a big, twisty live oak behind it.
Bluff walking around close to Balcones Drive
Cedar Here is a female ashe juniper... this plant won't make anyone sneeze. It's the male plants that create the pollen that everyone's allergic to. I wonder what sort of gin this would make...
Me An unflattering self-shot. Yes, I realize that I am a pudgy hippie.
Me And I have some white hairs. No big whoop.
Tiny holly I think this is a yaupon, or Texas holly.
Turkey buzzard I like turkey buzzards. They are very useful. They also flew very close to me, so I was able to get this shot.
