We had afternoon tea at The Drake after arriving.  Here's the harpist at tea. I was trying to be discreet with the pic.

Millennium Park is the north end of Grant Park that has been redone with gardens, public spaces, and public art.  A cool lake breeze blows in on to you when the wind is right.

The Cloud Gate by Anish Kapoor in Millennium Park.

Locals call Cloud Gate "the Bean."

Enlarge photo 41
41
The bean was the coolest!

Crown Fountain by Jaume Plensa.  2 50 foot light-up glass towers with video and light projection.

Enlarge photo 45
45
Between the towers of the Plensa, kids play in the waters that cascade off the towers.

Enlarge photo 46
46
Every 4 to 5 minutes, the face projections spout water.  See the kid playing in the cascade!

Enlarge photo 47
47
The faces smile and laugh when before and after they spout!  The spouting  is supposed to be reminescent of statues that spout water.

The reverse side of the face projections change colors.

Frank Gehry designed bandshell, also part of Millennium Park.  The Chicago Symphony plays free concerts there all summer.

Looking down into the band shell.  The concert is ready to start.

Enlarge photo 52
52
It is huge and elegant too.

Enlarge photo 53
53
Over the audience, a grid of speakers  extends.  There are fixed seats for 4000 and room for 7000 on the lawn.  The speakers are digitally delayed to make the sound seem seamless.

The Gehry bandshell is lit with changing colors at night.

Why can't my planters look like this?
