Our hotel, the Allerton.
We had afternoon tea at The Drake after arriving. Here's the harpist at tea. I was trying to be discreet with the pic.
We sat beside the center fountain at tea.
Some yummies and "the drake" pastry.
I had "Bombay Chai" tea and Adrienne had Earl Grey. The Bombey Chai was good!
I liked the 'drip doilie' on the tea pot. Funny.

The harpist was on break so I got a pic of the harp.
Centerpiece of the fountain.
Here we are at tea. Our nice waiter took our picture.
On The Drake hotel outside. Excellent.
On to Chicago Place shopping mall. Cool logo.
The tables at Chicago Place have the cool logo too.
Vietri poster. (This pic is for Adrienne's mom.)
Mmm. A hotdog with everything, Chicago-style with "sport peppers" and celery salt.
Thursday night--comedy at famed Second City. It was superb as usual!
On to the Field Museum to see the King Tut exhibit.
No photos were allowed in the King Tut exhibit. This was on the outside of the exhibit.
Beautiful Chicago. Pic taken from a window at the Field Museum.
King Tut exhibit.
The "Evolving Planet" explanation for "theory" for the very slow. (??)
Wooly Mammoth bones.
"Sue" at the Field Museum. http://www.fieldmuseum.org/SUE/
Sue's actual head. (See next pic.)

Elephants (not alive) in the main hall at Field Museum.
Bob Newhart's office building.
By the fountain at the courtyard cafe at The Art Institute. There was live jazz and we had dinner here.
Front of The Art Institute at night.
The moon rose over the Chicago River on our walk back to our hotel.
John Hancock Building.
(Chris Farley had an apartment here--it is where he died).
The Water Tower--survivor of Mrs. O'Leary's cow's attack of 1871.

Looking out at the Adler Planetarium from the Field Museum.
Shedd Aquarium Oceanarium--across the street from the Field Museum.
Chicago River (evening party boats loading up on right side).
Millennium Park is the north end of Grant Park that has been redone with gardens, public spaces, and public art. A cool lake breeze blows in on to you when the wind is right.
Beautiful cleome and other plants/flowers at the park.
The Cloud Gate by Anish Kapoor in Millennium Park.
Locals call Cloud Gate "the Bean."
The bean was the coolest!
Self portrait in the Bean.
The shiny Gehry bandshell and us reflected in the Bean.
Crown Fountain by Jaume Plensa. 2 50 foot light-up glass towers with video and light projection.
Between the towers of the Plensa, kids play in the waters that cascade off the towers.
Every 4 to 5 minutes, the face projections spout water. See the kid playing in the cascade!
The faces smile and laugh when before and after they spout! The spouting is supposed to be reminescent of statues that spout water.
One of the Plensa towers at night.
The reverse side of the face projections change colors.
Frank Gehry designed bandshell, also part of Millennium Park. The Chicago Symphony plays free concerts there all summer.
Looking down into the band shell. The concert is ready to start.
It is huge and elegant too.
Over the audience, a grid of speakers extends. There are fixed seats for 4000 and room for 7000 on the lawn. The speakers are digitally delayed to make the sound seem seamless.
The Gehry bandshell is lit with changing colors at night.
Why can't my planters look like this?
Chess players in Millennium Park. Come by and make 1 or more moves I guess.
I put the camera on automatic & took our pic at night in front of the Bean. Blurry!
The Ferris wheel at Navy Pier.
We took a quick boat tour down to the Adler and to Oak Street Beach along the lakeshore.
Funky McDonald's ice cream stand at the Ferris Wheel.
You want me to walk HOW far to the beer garden? Navy Pier is 3000 feet long--10 football fields.
Chinese Dragon we saw pass by!
These singers were entertaining the crowd at Navy Pier.
Lighthouses on the Lake marking the harbor entrance and breakwater.
The view from the tour boat--tall buildings and ships.
This was beautiful to see gliding along in the lake.
Glorious day on the lake.
Buckingham Fountain and the Hilton--scene of the student protests at the 1968 Democratic Convention.
The Gehry Bandshell shines.
You can pay to take a harbor tour on this ship and work the ropes and sails.
The Gehry bandshell (from earlier pix) gleams from the Lake.
A plane drags an ad over the Navy Pier and the lake.
Lighthouse marking in the end of the concrete breakwater and harbor entrance.
Navy Pier from the lake.
Sails on the horizon.
The water was emerald green and the sky was so blue.
