1 This rare and unusal medium, 1" black glass button with carnival luster is a beauty beyond words. It appears to be a fabulous creature with beak, wings and a flower reaching from the creature's back to the sky. Whatever, the design is, it is quite enchanting and the detailed craftsmanship is remarkable.Lined and etched background but the most interesting part, is the rare, ribbed and sectioned back with four-way box shank. 2 Very scarce-wafer button, which is a type of mechanical makeup. Wafers are made of thing glass cemented to a wide metal plate with a loop shank attached. The entire back is embedded in a pitch-like material.
The lion is engraved and the background is acid etched to a dull finish.
There is a flea-bite nick on the outer rim as noted in the photo. Otherwise, good vintage condition.
