1 Very scarce-wafer button, which is a type of mechanical makeup. Wafers are made of thing glass cemented to a wide metal plate with a loop shank attached. The entire back is embedded in a pitch-like material.
The lion is engraved and the background is acid etched to a dull finish.
There is a flea-bite nick on the outer rim as noted in the photo. Otherwise, good vintage condition.

178 Great GREENMAN or Vegetable Man metal picture button c.1880's. Not sure of his identity, he might even be some mythological god, so if anyone knows for sure, could you please email me with the correct identification.
What makes this button design is that whoever he is, he is sprouting two faces from either side of his head. It was too hard to capture it on camera, but they are definitely there. The face on the left side is more distinct.
Constructed with a separately applied rim, and bar shank base, these buttons are in great condition. Some show signs of verdigas on the reverse, but none on the front sides.
