 | 2008 Kayak trip 10,000 Islands area
| 3 day kayak camping trip among the 10,000 Islands off Everglades City and Chokoloskee, Florida. We camped on Picnic and Rabbit Keys, and stopped to explore and eat at lots of others along the way. Good open water travel, lots of inside navigation challenges, weather changes, wind and tide variables all weekend. Saw 5-6 porpoises near Jack Daniels Key Saturday en route to Rabbit Key. They actually came near the boats and the smallest jumped from the water a bit, unlike the rolling motion we're used to seeing with porpoises. Good eats this trip, lots of firewood for beach bonfires, and cool weather so no bug problems. All boats and hands safely returned, except for Rich's hands which he burned in a good cause from stupidity. |
