Bobby Orr was a star when they played the National Anthem in his first game. His display of end-to-end rushes and his mastery on the point changed the way offense was generated (and how defenses would cover them). He was simply the most skilled player the NHL has ever seen.

Before releasing Bobby Orr's iconic 1966 #35 subject, Topps issued a "USA Test Issue" that retained nearly all of the qualities of the eventual standard issue, save the lighter wood-grained borders and a reverse that only depicted English text (as opposed to the English & French text on the standard Topps issue).
Distributed only in the United States, while no irrefutable evidence exists, it is assumed that the 1966 Topps USA Test issue was only released in the Southern States and California.

Bobby Orr sat out the entire 1977-78 season as a member of the Chicago Blackhawks recovering from his 12th knee operation. He would play only six more games before retiring in the fall of 1978.
