Fuel gauge testing, this is a outline of how to test your fuel gauge to see if it is working right.
It is common to see both the fuel gauge and temp gauge "peg" if the voltage limiter build into the fuel guage is bad. Thanks to Greg Dickinson for this drawing!!

Standard point type regulator that came stock on all but the very late
trucks and cars in the 60s. Field wire to the alt is the wire that screws on.

Standard one field wire alt, field wire from the voltage regulator has a pug, the battery charge wire is the one with the nut.

Late 60s and up electronic voltage regulator,
this system uses 2 field wires.
This system was used for years with
EI and gives stable voltage to run the EI system.

This is the Mopar Preformace "race only" voltage regulator, it plugs right into were a standard points type regulator was installed, no change to wires or alt.
May be ordered from Mopar, Jeg's or Summit for around $22, or less.
The very least that should be done if your using a EI system.
I have been using one on my black 66 for years and they work great.

From "Chrysler Preformace Upgrades by  Frank Adkins" how to upgrade your
points type regulator system to the late type system. You must use the late type alt with 2 field wires and
wires must be hooked the way shown.

From same book by Frank Adkins, shows both electronic types of ignition (EI) systems used in Mopars in the 70s up.
