Eastern European Treasures
16. Eastern European Treasures  (May 2006)
Eastern European Treasures, a GoAheadVacations tour, included city stays in Budapest, Vienna, Prague, and Warsaw, plus an optional day trip to Bratislava, Slovakia. Our visit to Poland was complicated somewhat by the fact that Pope Benedict's visit coincided with ours, limiting our time in Krakow.

UNESCO World Heritage Sites
17. UNESCO World Heritage Sites  (1988 - 2012)
Updated: June 2009, May 2010, October 2010,
May 2011, May 2012, September 2012, February 2013, October 2013

UNESCO - United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization - identifies, protects, and preserves sites considered to be of outstanding value to humanity. These are World Heritage Sites that I have visited, beginning with my first trip abroad in 1988. The earliest pictures were taken with a Vivitar 35 mm camera. In the winter of 95/96 I upgraded to a Nikon 35 mm camera with a zoom lens. In 2002 I began using the Sony digital camera. In May 2010 I began using the Kodak EasyShare M340 camera.

For a true cultural high, try a few days in NYC. Visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, see an opera at the Met, add a few Broadway plays, and even attend a conference at the United Nations.

Autumn in Chicago
19. Autumn in Chicago  (Autumn 2005)
Perhaps because of the dry summer followed by late rains, autumn leaves in and around Chicago were spectacular this year.

The Magic of Italy, continued
20. The Magic of Italy, continued  (October 2005)
Arriving in Sorrento, we were greeted on one side of our hotel by cats on the rooftops and on the other side by a picturesque view of the Bay of Naples.  Next, a spectacular sunset and sunny days ahead. Perhaps a coin in the Trevi Fountain will insure a return trip.

Leaving Frank O. Gehry's masterpiece behind, we continued to Burgos, Spain, visiting the Burgos Cathedral, burial place of El Cid and a World Heritage site. Along the "Wild Atlantic Coast" of Portugal, we visited various fishing villages, Portugal's two major cities Porto and Lisbon, as well as the UNESCO World Heritage site Sintra. Throughout the trip we enjoyed the regional wines: vino tinto, vino verde, cava, and port.

Unforgettable Spain and Portugal
23. Unforgettable Spain and Portugal  (May 2005)
Returning to Spain after 17 years provided me the opportunity to relive memories of my very first trip abroad. It was a thrill to find the fountains of Neptune and Cibeles, right where I had left them! Our Madrid hotel was located within walking distance of the Prado, the Reina Sofia, the Thyssen-Bornemisza, and the Parque del Retiro. Our itinerary included Toledo, the AVE train to Seville, Barcelona, and Pamplona. A highlight was seeing the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. Including Portugal allowed me to add another star to my map of countries visited.

29. US Forum/Washington, DC  (May 2 - 5, 2004)
The US Forum of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International sponsored the National Legislative Seminar in Washington, DC, May 2 - 5, 2004. Approximately 70 women representing 33 states came together to learn about issues affecting women, children, and education. A highlight of the Seminar was the opportunity to visit our legislators and make them aware of our concerns. A bonus of the Seminar was the opportunity to see the nation's capital.
