Just starting
The old fence is down, one row of new holes is dug.

Cutting to fit
We ran into boulders in a couple of the holes, and needed to cut a couple posts down to keep them level

Starting to look good
We have the two end posts in the line set, and are adding rails to line everything up

Setting sun on the new fence
We were just about ready to wrap it up here
“I don't own horses and hav...”

The end of a day's work
We started out the day with some more layout work, and finished with six set posts and two nice sunburns!

John adding cement to a post hole
Dad came over today and helped John dig some more holes.

They set the gate posts
The gate post is the one on the far left

We painted 8X8 wood posts for hanging gates
There are 6 bags of cement down there... I don't think they are going to move!

One day, two short runs, two gate posts
It was nearly 100 degrees, but John and Dad finished the two ends up to the gate posts today (6-25)

Leveling ground
John is working with the tractor to level out the high spots... it will look a lot better to have the fence level

Best tool to have...
a post level

Rocks in the hole
There were several rocks in the way that John dug out
Enlarge photo 1717
This one was too big
half of the rock is still covered with dirt

The rocky hole...
and the big one never did come out.  John udercut the hole to push it out of the way

Caught in the act!
Yes, I DO help some!  Here I am tamping cement in the post hole

How the gates are hung
We used the hardware that came with the gates, and hung them on 8X8 wooden posts

The latch
1/2" eyebolt mounted in a vinyl post (it has a steel sleeve inside it)

A well hung gate...
check out the gate wheel... helps support the gate, and makes it easy to open

Finished North end
Looking good!  We got the holes augered for the East side the same day (7-2)

And found more rocks!
This was only about 1 1/2 ft. down in the hole, so we had to get it out of there
