The Barn Project

John, with a little help from Kris and myself, tore down most of the old part of the barn to rebuild it. The ceiling in the loft was too short to stand up in (hard to put hay up that way), the roof was rotting, and the floor was sagging. It was in all around bad shape! Well, as we all know, that when John takes on a project, he does things right. We now have about a 10' ceiling in the barn. Yahoo!!! It also has a solid floor that we don't need to prop up from below.

1 This is the old part from the rear - you can see why we needed to rebuild it!	2 Boards supporting the roof inside the loft, that wasn't quite tall enough to stand up in.	3 You can see daylight in some places. It was REALLY bad!	4 The demolition phase! I think John enjoyed ripping it down (doesn't hurt that he bought a new 'toy' just for the job). ;)
5 The roof and siding removed.	6 A lot of visible rot and decay that was hidden by the siding.	7 No wonder it looked like it was about to fall down!	8 This shows a board that was almost chewed through before a proper stall was constructed in the back.
9 More rot.	10 Repairs to the old part completed, band joist up.	11 John putting in floor joists.	12 Wow, REAL floor joists! These ought to support a lot of hay in the loft.
13 A header in place.	14 Looking good! You can see the loft access doorway in the middle.	15 A quarter of the way to a roof.	16 My angel in the loft doorway. :)
17 It's starting to look like a barn roof.	18 The top header was a challenge to put up!	19 It wasn't easy working around all the braces!	20 It's really taking shape now!
21 Almost done with this phase of the project.	22 Framing in the front of the loft and the loft door.	23 Framing in the back. There won't be a door on this end anymore, and the window will be gone too.	24 A closer view.
