Reconciliation Mural at Fremantle
The Wargul (Rainbow Serpent) represents the strength, beauty and creation of the natural features of this country. The green and blue water represents the mampakut (the ocean) and the derrbil yarrigan (the fresh water of this country. The ocean and the freshwater each have their own stories and identity, which represents the differences between people. Each can exist in their own right as well as co-exist. This signifies that everybody born in this country is part of this land and can identify themselves by looking at the land. With this identity and belonging comes the responsibility to care for land and to acknowledge the history of this land through the Bibbulmun people.

Information about Reconciliation Mural 1999
The previous Mural by Melanie Evans, is a visual explanation of her view on Reconciliation. This Mural is located in Fremantle where initial contact between the colonisers and the Bibbulmun people occurred, so is an important place for the journey of healing. The Artist pays Respects and Thanks to the Council of Elders who gave approval, guidance and ideas to help her dream and design this Reconciliation Mural.
