They are robust enough to last a lifetime if looked after.....and this one has been. As well as performing admirably, this model has now become very collectible as it was the first studio quality chorus pedal .
Roland/BOSS originated the chorus effect pedal in the mid-1970s , and nobody has come close to matching the CE-1’s lush chorus sound since. Its unique warm analog stereo chorus and vibrato have been heard on many classic recordings. The CE-1 provides a choice of either chorus or true pitch shifting vibrato. This is the same type of vibrato as on the famous old Magnatone amps. The vibrato/chorus “stomp switch” allows for chorus or vibrato effects, while the normal/effect stomp switch bypasses the effect. One knob is dedicated to the chorus intensity, while two knobs allow control of the vibrato depth and rate. There is also the option for stereo output in addition to the standard 'mono' and a knob that controls the level of output and a switch for high or low level input.
