1 The Marhoefer Meats company of Muncie, Ind., produced five sets of cards celebrating the cars and drivers of the Indianapolis 500 between 1961-65.
The cards were included in packages of hot dogs. As a result, most of the Marhoefer cards in the hobby are stained from the wieners. Naturally, A.J. Foyt is the most desirable card to own, even when the card is stained like this example.
There are a few Marhoefer cards in the hobby that were clearly not included in packages of wieners, but stain-free examples of Marhoefer cards are extremely tough to locate -- especially when it comes to star drivers
2 The design on the front of the cards differed slightly from year to year. As a result, the specific year of the car can be ascertained by the design on the front of the card. This particular example of a Foyt card is from 1962.
