On 11 August 2010, during a Relief & Appointment Ceremony at Camp Horno on the Camp Pendleton Marine Base, Sergeant Major Troy W. Dabney, USMC, was relieved by Sergeant Major Jonathan S. Henry, USMC as Sergeant Major of 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. Sergeant Major Dabney will assume the post of Sergeant Major of the 1st Tank Battalion at the Marine Base located in 29 Palms, California.
While Marines of the famed battalion took their places on the parade ground and guests were finding their seats, the 1st Marine Division Band entertained with a concert.
The photographs follow the sequence of the ceremony, which is described in frame #13 as the ceremony begins.
The passing of the sword symbolizes the official assumption of the duties by Sergent Major Henry. The sword is delivered to the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Craig Wonson, by Sergent Major Dabney, and in turn is passed to Sergeant Major Henry.
After the ceremony, beginning with image #63, guests congratulate the Sergeants Major, then depart for a reception at Puller's Post.
