MEMORIAL SERVICE - 1ST BN, 1ST MARINES
Marines and Sailors of 1/1 (1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division), gathered on the Parade deck next to 1/1 Headquarters at Camp Horno, located on the Camp Pendleton Marine Base, to honor and recall three fallen comrades. The March 5, 2008 ceremony took place shortly after 1/1 returned from their last deployment to Iraq.
The Memorial Service began with the battalion formed on the parade deck, and was attended by families and friends of the fallen, Major General Tom Waldhauser, Commanding General of the 1st Marine Division, as well as many other active duty, retired, and former Marines.
The service included music performed by a section of the 1st Marine Division Band, and Pipers and a Drummer from Nicholson Pipes and Drums, "1/1's Own."
These photos of the event begin with arrival of guests prior to the service, and then follow the sequence of the program (see image 1), ending with the Honors by the Firing Detail and Benediction.
Following the service, Marines and families were invited to the Regimental Mess Hall for a private buffet hosted by a member of the Newport Beach 1/1 Adoption Committee, and owner of The Arches Restaurant, Dan Marcheano.
