MEMORIAL DEDICATION, 1ST BN, 1ST MARINES
Marines of 1/1 (1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division) gathered this day to honor and recall 11 comrades who lost their lives during the most recent tour of 1/1 between January and August of 2006, while serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom 05-07.
The Memorial was attended by many family and friends of the fallen, as well as Marine veterans of World War II, Korea, and Viet Nam.
These images begin with the photo of each of the 11 Marines placed in the honored rank formation, the arrival of family, friends & guests, and continues with the ceremony and final roll call, when the response for each Marine is the toll of a bell.
After conclusion of the formal ceremonies, Marines visited with the family and friends, then all gathered before the new Memorial at the front entrance of 1/1 Headquarters.
