On 26 June 2013 at San Mateo, on the Camp Pendleton Marine Base, in a Change of Command ceremony for 3/5 (3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division) Lieutenant Colonel Christeon C. Griffin relinquished command of the battalion to Lieutenant Colonel Robert C. Rice.
Photographs follow the sequence of events, beginning with arrival of guests, a concert by the 1st Marine Division Band, followed by the Change of Command ceremony, and concluding with informal greetings and congratulations among guests and Marines.
A brief history of 3/5 (Darkhorse Battalion) and the sequence of events are included in the album.
The passing of the Battalion's battle colors, delivered by Battalion Sergeant Major Douglas W. Yagel to the outgoing Commanding Officer, and in turn presented to the new Commander, symbolizes the formal transfer of command.
