3/1 MARINES KIDS CHRISTMAS PARTY - 2008
Since the citizens of Huntington Beach, CA adopted 3/1 (3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division), the battalion has been deployed 3 times.
As Christmas 2008 approached, with Marine & Sailors still out on their 3rd deployment, the 3/1 Foundation stepped up to provide help and support for a Christmas party for the kids of 3/1.
The party was held aboard Camp Pendleton on December 6, 2008. Before dinner and a visit from Santa, the children gathered to enjoy games and snacks, during which time these images were taken.
It was a fun occasion, but dampened somewhat by obvious underlying emotions due to the absence of fathers and husbands. One had the distinct feeling that the real Christmas for these families will take place in late January when the battalion is scheduled to return home.
