In the early part of January, Marines and Sailors of 1/1 (1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division) assembled on the Battalion parade deck to prepare for their 5th deployment since Operation Iraqi Freedom.
1/1 will be the BLT (Battalion Landing Team) of the 13th MEU (Marine Expeditionary Unit).
On a beautiful California day, the mood was quiet, yet tense with high spirits and readiness, damped by the necessity of saying farewell to family and friends, but that is the business of Marines.
If the purpose of this album is served, it will be to communicate some feeling of the rush of emotions as each Marine and Sailor, and each loved one, finds their own way to accept another separation, with grace and optimism.
