The Marines & Sailors of 1/1 (1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division) returned to their home base at Camp Horno located in Camp Pendleton, CA on 29 September, after a 7 month deployment.
1/1 was assigned as BLT (Battalion Landing Team) of the 13th MEU (Marine Expeditionary Unit), whose mission was to sail to a part of the world where they might be needed. While on station there, the BLT is a force in readiness, capable of lift off in helicopters or by Amtracs within minutes of an order. Although the BLT was not called into any hostile action on this deployment, the Commanding Officer, LtColonel Craig Wonson noted that the highlights of the mission included valuable experience of one on one training ashore with infantry of other countries, and many live fire exercises.
Marines & Sailors of 1/1 enjoyed some great liberty ports while at sea, including Thailand, Hong Kong, Darwin, and Honolulu.
The homecoming was in marked contrast to their deployment day, one of celebration and joy, reunions with parents, spouses, children, family & friends.
In addition to the families, those present to welcome 1/1 included the Commanding General of the 1st Marine Division, Major General Ronald Bailey, the division Sergeant Major, Michael Kufchak, and veterans of the battalion.

10-12-11 -These young families are up against so much. We wonder how many stop to think of their role that they are protecting at least 300 million people in this great USA. Maybe when the little ones on those photos are of age, things will change and their lives will flourish in to rose gardens. We love th photos BB even 10 and 13!!!!!!
