7 Massive Starburst Flapper Bandeau This is the largest badeau I have ever seen. It dwarfs all the others. This one doesn't have rings to put an elastic through like the others. It has pastes on tiger tale chain all around and is not adjustable.

48 Victorian Aigrette in Bird Form
49 Victorian Aigrette in Bird Form Brass enamelled bird with glass garnets. The back once held a cylinder to put feathers in. You can see the tabs that held the cylinder in place in the center.
50 Back View See the edges of the center piece? There are tabs that would of held a tube.

58 Kondakoora Hairpins/Brooches Set with Semi Precious Stones For years, I have thought these pins to be Georgian and have seen them in books described as such. I recently found a sight that shows that these hairpins are from Sri Lanka and from the late 19th century to early 20th century. There are examples at the British museum so that is good enough for me. See the Picture of the Sinhalese Woman wearing one.
59 Back View of Pins Some have been turned into brooches and others have not.
60 Example on Display at the British Museum My collection consists of silver (some with gold) hairpins set with pink sapphires, blue and clear stones known locally in Sri Lanka as Matara 'diamonds' (white zircons). (Matara is a sea port on the south coast of Sri Lanka from where the stones come.) Known as a kondakoora hairpins, each has an arrow-like end and a boteh-shaped finial. Such hairpins were worn by women in the 'Low Country' regions of Sri Lanka from the 18th through to the early 20th century.
Almost invariably, these are wrongly ascribed to India or Turkey and described as turban ornaments. An early photograph below shows a Sri Lankan woman wearing such a pin in her hair. Later, the fashioned developed in Sri Lanka for the hairpins to be worn as brooches and so many, including eight of the nine examples here, were fitted with long brooch pins on the reverse.
Three examples are illustrated in Cruse (2007, p. 115). Examples also have appeared in Malaysia whe...

64 Green Paste Bandeau Sometimes one has to be a detective. When I originally purchase this, I thought it was a choker. It was too big for a choker and it didn't hang right as a necklace. The side green pastes were positioned oddly. Then I tried it on as a bandeau and it fit, and looked perfect.

112 Art Nouveau Kokoshnik Style Head piece A kokoshnik is a Russian Head piece worn by North Russian ( and I suspect Norwegian) women. It is worn with a Dress called a Sarafan. A Sarafan is a traditional Russian long, trapeze-shaped jumper dress (pinafore) worn as Russian folk costume by women and girls. This style of head pieces seemed to be copied by fashionistas and was popular between 1890- 1910.
