My first and forgotten kayak gets recommissioned for sailing.
Some helpful ideas to make the installation of a Balogh rig a little easier.

Yellow Submarine - 36 Balogh Batwing and 75 sq ft Sailrite spinnaker I sewed from a kit. total (111 sq ft)

Adding ballast forward equal to the rig weight to establish the waterline. (Necky Kyook 15')
Marks on bow and stern.

Reestablish waterline on a level garage floor

1 7/8 inch holesaw to cut hole and shims from thin wood or plastic to position the deck fitting.
I chose to establish 1-2 degrees mast rake using a protractor
Mast Rake, Now check side to side verticle alignment.
Shimmed for verticle. I held the shims in place with thin double stick tape. (level across cockpit coaming) Don't assume coaming is level, best to check it in the water.
scribe
Magic marker taped to a scribe to establish a line conforming to the deck. Hold piece securely with other hand to trace with scribe (mine is holding camera)
Line follows deck shape for a perfect fit. Cut carefully with hacksaw and finish file or sand. Recheck angles with protractor
Deck piece cut in half. Blue portion conforms to underside of the deck
Centering Pins - A few assorted sizes make precise marking and alignment for drilling holes for the deck fitting, hull mounts, struts, leeboard and aka pins.
Clean looking fit, now it's on to the hull cup.
Marine-Texed Hull Cup - Rough up the polyethylene hull with sandpaper and be sure to flame it with a propane or acetylene torch or the mechanical bond between hull cup and boat will not hold
Stretch duck tape taught to stabilize the cross tube and akas perpendicular to the center line.
Measure bow to aka on both sides to get outriggers perpendicular
Stick double face tape on the plastic hull mounts and line them up with the struts
Cut only 1 strut, mark and drill the alignment holes and fasten 1 hull mount. Then recheck and realign the other hull mount and strut if necessary
rotate the aka tube until the ama makes contact directly below the blue tape for the right alignment and mark the tubes with a line.
Marking aluminum tubing with the correct size centering pin and leeboard hub as a guide. Slide hub out of the way to drill holes.(alternative - Mark recommended a dowling jig which I'll use on my next conversion)
Drill the (bottom hole) first, then insert the centering pin to align the hub. Re-Mark the top hole if necessary and drill top hole. *** It's very easy for the drill bit to move when drilling on a round tube, and much easier to see and correct by drilling the top hole last.
thru bolted stainless gudgeons and eye for rudder downhaul line.
Inside view of the thru bolted transom. A 4 foot socket extension was needed to reach the bolts.
Homemade mahoghany centerboard for windsurfer before its conversion to a rudder
Reshaped centerboard and template
Modified Sunfish rudder head and my handfoiled mahoghany rudder
Delrin block I shaped which acts as a channel with velcro attachment for the push-pull tiller.

Leeboard Control Lines. Starboard spinnaker line is not routed as pictured (for obvious reasons).
improvised rudder parts, tiller flex joint connector, cheek and control arm attachments, and mast tip fitting
stainless and delrin fitting I made for the spinnaker halyard acting as a running backstay
Sock makes deploying and retreiving the spinnaker a simple pull of the line.
Land Sailing. Takes 1 knot of wind to fly this 1/2 ounce cloth.
Spinnaker and sock. Spinnaker flies higher when sailing with some wind so visibility is not a problem.
Yellow Submarine beached, with one reef, in West Bay, Cedar Island
Very interesting! I just received yesterday the sail rigs I ordered from BSD. The pictures are a great complement to the written instructions included with the kit and answer some questions I had on my mind - they will be vey helpful when I get down to installing the rigs (I bought two). - Michel Bachant, Mon, 27 Oct 2008 2:47PM
