The Execution of Anne Boleyn
All of the photos I took while making my Anne Boleyn gown. I used 'The Tudor Tailor' book for the patterns and information for the smock, bodied petticoat, and coif. I used their Henrician French Kirtle, foresleeves, and Gown ready made patterns which I bought on Etsy. It was an adventure in skills for sure. I've been sewing costumes for over 20 years, but this was definitely new territory. There was a lot of hand sewing involved and learning different stitches for different areas. I had to draft up the pattern drawings in the book up to life size, and then adjust for my own body size and shape. The ready made patterns required adding in the seam allowances when tracing it onto the fabric. Most areas were 1/2" some were an inch. I also made necessary for adjustments for my body (lengthen the arms, width the bicep, and lengthen the skirts) Surprisingly, I did not need to remove any torso length. Most modern patterns are a good 1.5" too long for my torso. These were actually fine as is. I also made all of my ouches from jewelry making parts and those were hand sewn on. The 'B' necklace was a pendant I bought online and restrung it onto real pearls I had in my stash from an old necklace. I made the crystal blood choker in 2023 when I originally thought about doing this for 2024 (obviously it took another year before I finally did it).
