BEFORE: There were (non-functioning) intercoms built in to almost every room in the house, screaming "70's!".
Enlarge photo 22
BEFORE: Besides being ugly and useless, the intercoms really interfered with placement of furniture and artwork.
Enlarge photo 33
So we ripped 'em out!
Enlarge photo 44
Quite sizeable hole in the kitchen!
Enlarge photo 55
Fortunately Gary is a good drywaller.
Enlarge photo 66
The hole in the study was a bit more of a challenge because the walls are  plywood paneling.
Enlarge photo 77
But he managed!
Enlarge photo 88
There were a multitude of cracks in the ceiling and cracks in the walls. Plus repairs needed from removal of the (non-functioning) security system.
Enlarge photo 99
Dents and dings and scrapes and poor previous workmanship all needing to be addressed.
Enlarge photo 1010
Application, drying, sanding, reapplication, redrying, resanding, reapplication, redrying, and so on and so on and so on.
Enlarge photo 1111
Every room, every wall...
Enlarge photo 1212
After the drywalling was done came the priming.
Enlarge photo 1313
And finally the painting!
Enlarge photo 1414
The north wall in the living room went from a light bluish gray to a deep cerulean blue.
Enlarge photo 1515
The rest of the living room went from light bluish-gray to a pale peach.
Enlarge photo 1616
Kitchen went from yellow, which was completely out of sync with everything else in the kitchen, to gray, which matches the tile grout and complements the granite counter tops and black cabinetry.
Enlarge photo 1717
That high ceiling makes painting the walls tough!
Enlarge photo 1818
The hallway and stairwell stayed a light grayish blue, but still had to be repainted because of all the repairs.
Enlarge photo 1919
Master bedroom and the walk-in closet went from a grayish blue to a deeper gray-blue.
Enlarge photo 2020
The family room went from a light gray-blue to a deeper gray-blue (same color as master bedroom).
Enlarge photo 2121
The study went from the light gray-blue, which I thought had been a little incongruous with the textured wood paneling, to a creamy latte.
Enlarge photo 2222
The office went from a pale gray to the same deep cerulean as the living room accent wall.
Enlarge photo 2323
Before: a strange "box" built into the stairwell wall for no apparent reason.
Enlarge photo 2424
After: Painted it wall color and trimmed it out to blend in as much as possible.
Enlarge photo 2525
Before: No stairwell railing.
Enlarge photo 2626
After: Cut, stained, polyurethaned, and mounted a handrail.
Enlarge photo 2727
Before: None of the closets had vertical trim pieces at the edges.
Enlarge photo 2828
After: trimmed out.
Enlarge photo 2929
Another closet without vertical trim at the sides.
Enlarge photo 3030
Painted and trimmed.
Enlarge photo 3131
Before: Guest room closet interior was dark paneling, with mis-matched rails and only one shelf. The doors (removed) were hollow core bypass doors that were just hanging from the top rail and not secured in a floor track.
Enlarge photo 3232
Painted the closet interior, installed a new matching rod, and added a shelf.
Enlarge photo 3333
Moved the bifold doors from the office closet to the guest room closet, which required redoing the door frame.
Enlarge photo 3434
After trimming out the new door frame.
