This is Balsa. She weighs just 6 lbs.

In the shelter, Balsa and her housemates, who had been found in a home after their hoarder owner died, were all terribly frightened and stressed. Her toenails are evidence of the neglect that they suffered.

She was terribly worried and uncertain when she first got here to her foster home.

She wouldn't make eye contact and would tremble when anyone got near.

But by the next day, she was already getting braver and showing a lot of progress. She let me put a shirt on her to help with her shivers. This video was taken the morning after she arrived.

One day later. She has already relaxed a LOT and comes to us seeking attention.

She knows that she rocks the pink shirt with ruffles!

Balsa REALLY likes other dogs. She can often be found curled up next to one or more of them.

In fact, the more the better!

Normally Niki doesn't like it when other dogs crowd her, but she doesn't seem to mind Balsa.

Balsa suffered from severe itching when she first got her. She took quite readily to being bathed!

It's so convenient to have a dog small enough to easily fit into the kitchen sink!

Balsa is reliably house trained! She did have a couple of accidents in the house in the very beginning when she was so terrified, but now she knows the routine and even quickly learned how to use a doggie door!

She is too little to jump onto the sofa, so she appreciates a nice comfy blanket on the floor.
