As Darren said after "That was the closest 5-0 loss ever."

We had lots of tic-tac-toe going... but didn't have the finish on the net. They were their usual magical selves on offence, especially Ryan Bornmann.

Andrew did a great job in our net, with Kyle nursing a concussion and Bruce away on vacation.. The only one Andrew had a chance on, he over-committed on a spinning shot that tricked him to his left.

They had 2 subs and we had none.

Thanks to all those who committed to come and followed through on your commitment. Steve came from Vancouver and had to leave before the handshake, to get to a hockey game in Chilliwack (he plays goalie.

Darren drove hard from Alberta, driving through snowstorms, and got there just in time for the kick-off.

Thanks also to Dan K for the post-game beers.

Report from March 6's 1-2 loss to Old Settler, written by Al:

In a very similar effort to the last time we played Old Settler we came out strong and controled the ball against their shorthanded team (8 men versus our 11).  On a great run Zane put us ahead 1-0 only 7-8 minutes in and we continued to control the ball and get our chances but  were unable to finish on a bunch of great offensive forrays.  They picked up a couple of more players to get to 9 or 10 and kept a fairly defensive strategy with one striker.

They got a few chances and on a lucky bounce in our box the ball hit Bruce in the arm and the ensuing penalty shot was put away making it 1-1 at half.

The second half was much more of the same with us getting lots of chances but not being able to finish around the 18 yard box.  We used our wingers and clogged up the middle getting quite a few chances both Craig and Ryan L coming very close to putting us ahead but the bounces didn't go our way.

About midway through the half they finished nicely on a rare offensive run with one player able to get through a few of our defensive players and centred the ball to a wide open guy in the box who finished nicely... putting us behind 2-1.

We applied a lot of pressure to finish but were unable to score on a bunch of chances.

I hope this game can be used as a rallying point for us to focus on a more relaxed ball control game where defense is our priority and when we attack, we attack as a team rather than punting it up to our forwards and expecting them to beat 4-5 guys.

Intermission action. With the rain, the Valley Helicopters tent came in handy for the last half and post-game huddle.
