Back after a 1.5 month Christmas break. Five games before Christmas, in 3 months. The weather, one reschedule and 3 byes have conspired against us.
Tough luck to not get a tie out of it — but we couldn't pull it off.
They got 1-up on us early in the game. A guy was in the box to Kyle's left. A scrambly play ensued and Kyle came out to block. I got a piece of it first or second — and it was headed just outside the post — but it had a vicious spin on it and it curved around Kyle and into the net. I don't think it even hit the back of the net.
We didn't have our usual cadre of forwards, so Aaron went up there, along with Andrew. Things didn't really start to connect until the second half, when other guys were joining in the attack. Andrew had a handful of strong low crosses that were just off the mark. They've found a new keeper, and he's pretty good.
Justin had a beautiful shot to the top corner on a left-foot volley and somehow the keeper got there to block it. We also had a strange Daniel K. corner kick that was judged to have gone out of bounds in the air, before curving back into play — where it was knocked in. It was immediately blown down. I wasn't near the goal line to judge it, though the ref was. It must have been some curve, as there was no wind, and it started 1 yard inside the field.
Sitwala had a rough game! Early in the game he met the Prez as he was bringing the ball into the box... and he got a piece of the ball and most of the Prez's "Pez dispenser." I don't know if it was then or later, but Sit came up with a bleeding, swollen lip. In the second half, Sitwala saw some open space and took the ball past one guy, then another — then got smacked to the ground on the third. (Free kick for us.)
Kenroc got their second goal with about 15 minutes to go, a header off a corner. They scored later, but it was determined to have been punched in.
A pretty clean game, with no cards for either team. | Date(s): Jan 23, 2010. Album by Barry Stewart. Photos by Ryan W., Deanna Klaassen & Barry. 1 - 34 of 34 Total. 163 Visits. |
