YoungGuns2_1Loss
An honourable loss, to a well-polished team.

0-0 for almost all of the first half, then A YG came in from Kyle's left and stick-handled through a few defenders then got the shot away. We had some chances in the first half, though.

Justin got a really good shot to the corner early in the second. It would have been off the post and in... except the keeper was there.

YG scored about 20 minutes into the second, on a scrambly play. Kyle made the first save, then was putting a hand on the ball when it was kicked away from him and in.

Kyle made several fine saves to keep us in the game.

At the other end, Ryan was making some things happen with his aggressive style. He got one chance on a free kick from the edge of the box, came close on a set-up by Ory Holgate (Steve got a crack at the rebound) — and  finally, he drew a penalty shot on a possible miscall. YG had been harping on the ref for the whole game, so it was a fitting turn of events.

Ryan chased down a loose ball in the box. The keeper streaked out, kicked the ball... then collided with Ryan. If anyhting, Ryan could have had a call — but nope! Perhaps it was an elbow or something, as the keeper got a yellow card.

Ryan took the shot — but the keeper got 90% of it with his hands. The other 10% went spinning into the net. It seemed to take half a minute to get there, and the keeper didn't quite know where it was.

Bruce came close on a free kick near the end. Man, that would have been a great upset!

Other bits:
Daniel K was resting his ankle, which has been bugging him a bit. Garry was sidelined with a knee problem and I was out with a sprained ankle from drop-in.

Zane was home from the Cariboo for the weekend, and helped a lot with big speed and slide-tackles. Ory and Jeff Holgate helped out for the second time.

Not a great pic — but it shows how close Ryan got, early in the game. This was about 5 minutes after kick-off.

(Note the kicker's low toe, to keep the shot low. In retrospect, a chip may have done the trick....)

The keeper gets most it, but the shot spins over him and into the net. (Note how no one was rushing in for the possible rebound. If there's a rebound, it's a live ball. If it's directly off the post, the shooter can't touch it until someone else does.)
