5-1OverSummit
Summit beat us badly on the team cheers at the start of both halves — but we got them soundly on the scoring sheet.
They started off with a series of penetrations into our penalty box until we got things settled down and started taking the game to them.
Offsides were a BIG problem for us today, though — probably 10 or more of them that killed even more chances for us. (I suspect the ref got tired of calling them and let a few go!)
D.J. Long (Ryan's brother) banged home the first goal. 1-0 at the half.
Justin was coming off a knee injury, but he wasn't holding back. He was making some crazy moves on that loose knee!
In the second half, Ryan scored on a breakaway set up by Andrew.
Soon after, Ryan reclaimed a bad corner kick and re-fed it low to the near post. Hanway caught it thigh-high with his left foot and redirected it into the net. (Very Young Gun-like).
Andrew kept his streak going with a goal later in the half, followed by Daniel.
With about a minute to go, Summit put a lob into the box. I challenged the header but the ball was tipped to their 16 goal-scorer (who may well have been offside) and he got a strong shot past Kyle.
Cards: They got 3 yellows. Steve picked up his 2nd yellow of the season on a rough collision. Late in the game, they had a free kick in their own half. D.J. was taking his time walking away from it and he got blasted in the back. Ryan took exception to the targeting and shoved the kicker. No call yet. Another Summit defender came in, yelling about the pushing. Ryan replied back in strong terms... and got a red.
Idea: These guys were taking liberties with placing some of their free kicks. (The offside kick that led to the goal, for one.) When we are called, we should pick up the ball and assist in its placing. Then, we are in control.
Since Christmas, we've had our first 3, 4 and 5-goal performances. Wow! | Date(s): Feb7, 2009. Album by Barry Stewart. Photos by Barry Stewart. 1 - 26 of 26 Total. 271 Visits. |
