4-2WinOverAbbyHawks

No pics, as I was busy and Taylor was frozen on the sidelines.

Our best play of the day was Bruce winning the toss, giving us the wind for the first half. Bruce figured the wind was good for an extra 15-20 yards on his big boots.

Wind chill must have been -10ºC at least, though the ground was actually soft. Very tough to predict any ball in the air. Very sloppy play as well, not much tic-tac-toe.

I think we missed our midfield general, Al — but the weather conditions were very tough as well. "The great equalizer," as they say in pro sports. It was tough to be heard, even if you were able to speak without sounding like a moron because your face was frozen.

The bright side: early in the first half, Ryan Long got nailed from behind in the box, I believe by the player who reffed us in Abby and gave us 3 yellows (should have been a card for him) and Ryan got the penalty shot in. Then Andrew Overbeek scored, followed by Ryan again.

Second half: they got a goal on us when Steve misjudged a header (due to the wind) and it went back, rather than forward... over Kyle's hands and toward the net. Steve raced back to stop it and almost did — but a Hawk player was there for the tap-in.

Zane made it up soon after. He had been flying down the wing all day, and this time it worked.

Late in the game, I stayed with my check as he moved into the box. The ball was coming to Kyle's left post, so I went where I figured my check was going to go. I thought it was a fair challenge — but he went down and the ref called a hit from behind. The guy was faster than me, so I don't know how I could catch up to hit him... unless (as I recall it) I had the jump on him and when we collided side-to-side he just went down.

The shot went in. No biggie, as it didn't cost the game or spoil a shut-out.

No cards for either team. Bryan H and Daniel K left the game with lower body injuries and Andrew was playing with a sore back — though it was hard to tell, from the way he was running up front.

Ryan and Andrew are climbing the league scoring chart! (But it won't be updated till later this week.)

That was our first 4-goal game, following our first 3-goal game on Wednesday.
